The
Prospect Range begins to populate Western Sydney Parklands
May
24, 2010
botton + gardiner is excited to announce the completion
of the first stage of installations of the Prospect street furniture range at Western Sydney Parklands. After six months of design development and
prototyping in consultation with the Western Sydney Parklands Trust, our
competition winning designs have been rolled out at three locations: Shale
Hills, Plough and Harrow and Bungarribee. These parks provide a much needed
amenity for the growing populations of the western regions of Sydney from
the Hills district to the City of Liverpool along the M7 corridor. The
designs, comprising seats, benches, tables, bollards, bike racks and a
drinking fountain, feature robust materials and striking asymmetrical
forms which reflect the natural landscape as well as the existing architecture
of the parklands. One
of the most exciting designs for the team at botton & gardiner as
well as for the Trust is the new drinking fountain. This features wheelchair
accessibility, dual water spouts for drinking and bottle filling and a
dog bowl. These will be deployed throughout the Parklands ensuring
that users and their pets can always find plenty of fresh drinking water.
The next major parkland development will occur at Pimelea in Bossley Park
where the Prospect picnic settings of tables and benches will be configured
to accommodate large family groups. The Western Sydney Parklands Trust
is committed to an ongoing program of upgrading existing parks and providing
new facilities in the region which will feature the Prospect range of
furniture by botton + gardiner.

Top Ryde City Food Court by botton + gardiner
November 15 , 2009
botton + gardiner have recently completed another successful fit-out at one of Australia’s largest commercial developments. Bringing their food court expertise to the Top Ryde City project in north-west Sydney, botton + gardiner’s classic, quality aesthetic for interior furniture was revealed to the public on Thursday 5 November as the major shopping centre re-opened its doors.
The extensive food court area in Top Ryde City covering 1,800 square metres provided an opportunity for botton + gardiner to capitalise on their full range of products and services, from seating and tables to functional elements such as bin and tray returns and cleaner’s stations. Both manufactured and custom pieces were installed, including Corian tables, Ned chairs, Kelly stools, communal high bars and curved and straight banquette seating. The food court boasts a capacity of 890 seats and the recently-released Skokis chair was specially developed for Top Ryde City, with 54 individual units lending character to the food court area.
TETRA & Infiniti Queensland Launch
October 26 , 2009
Over 100 guests made their way to the beautiful and iconic Brisbane Powerhouse for the launch of botton + gardiner’s new commercial furniture range and their new Brisbane office on Wednesday 14 October. The latest products were well received by the local design and architectural community, the relaxed atmosphere and riverside location providing the perfect opportunity to take ‘the product tour’ and get an in-depth introduction to botton and gardiner’s range of Australian designed and made furniture. Following their successful product launch at Saturday in Design in August, on display were the botton + gardiner designed TETRA seating range and the Infiniti range of commercial dining and café chairs from Italy. botton + gardiner’s own Skokis chair also made its first public appearance which also attracted a lot of attention.
botton + gardiner services commercial project Australia wide, but now Queensland has its own Brisbane based Account Manager Carolyn Little. “The business has a key focus on delivery of high service levels and close contact to our clients, therefore having an office in Queensland is of great importance,” she says.

botton + gardiner Win Western Sydney Parklands Design Competition
October 15 , 2009
The
newly formed Western Sydney Parklands is not a small project, the area
covers 5,280 hectares, the parklands are a vast conservation, lifestyle
and recreation area that stretches for 27km, from Quakers Hill in the
north to Leppington in the south. In August botton + gardiner's submission
for the design competition was selected from proposals by the five local
design companies, as the suite of park and public space furniture for
the Western Sydney Parklands project. The street furniture suite
is purposely designed to integrate the existing elements of the parklands
as a thread to form a visual connection between precincts. The furniture
suite consists of seat, picnic setting, backless bench, bike racks, bubblers
and bollards. Western Sydney Parklands is used by many people, each with
different needs and with this in mind the furniture has been designed
with many strong features such as wheel chair access, larger picnic tables,
bubblers which facilitate the filling of water bottles and even a water
bowl for dogs. Another key area within the design is a focus on sustainable
development ensuring minimization of material wastage and using highly
durable materials such as Duraslat,
a recycled hardwood and plastic composite with a 25 year warranty
against structural failure. The new “Prospect Range” is all
Australian made and manufactured, further reducing its carbon footprint.
The manufacture and installation of the selected park furniture is proposed
to commence later this year and will continue for a number of years.
TETRA & Infinity Ranges Launched at SiD09
August 1, 2009
Saturday in Design was a fantastic success for botton and gardiner with 1400 event registrants visiting our space in Forster Street, Surry Hills. Our new range of commercial lounges, sofas and ottomans: TETRA stirred plenty of interest, in particular as a distinct locally designed and locally manufactured new range of furniture for commercial spaces. The addition of 7 new commercial dining and hospitality chairs with our Infinity range was also very popular, with guests taking their time to try out the chairs for themselves in our bar and break out area.
Thank you to everyone who attended our launch party at +Friday and the many who came through during Saturday in Design.

You saw it here first! Mike Botton reports from Milan on the Salone Internazionale del Mobile Milano 2009:
The Milan furniture fair finishes Monday 27 April having seen record attendances, surely an indicator of business optimism in the face of nightly gloomy reports on the TV news channels of every hotel room.
I spent 4 days at the fair and the equally impressive fringe fair ? Fuori Salone ? to bring back the latest in creative ideas, products and technologies. The overwhelming impression was colour ? whether in wildly outrageous retro lounges or the sleekest of minimalist designs, a full spectrum of bright colours predominated. To express these colours designers employed rich felted fabrics on one hand as well as plastics of all kinds with a growing use of roto-moulded polyethylene and lustrous polycarbonates.
The forms are sinuous, sensual and playful, suggestive of attention to both comfort and structure. Texture and pattern are added to many surfaces through the use of random perforations or more ordered traditional repetitions either laser cut, engraved or printed.
I leave Milan reinvigorated and excited about bringing new products and ideas back to our team and most importantly to our customers.

Prizes for the three winners some great eco-products designed to encourage sustainable living. Tweed City Reopens with b+g Food Court
July 17, 2008

The redevelopment of this 43,500sqm shopping centre, includes several major retail outlets, 105 specialty shops, a new 570 place food court and a 6 cinema complex.
The new food court and mall extensions opened on 15 July 2008 amid much excitement on the border region of the Gold Coast.
The new food court presents a clean contemporary look without compromise to comfort and a sense of spaciousness. Seating includes upholstered banquettes and a variety of chairs from solid timber to flexible laminated plywood. A feature of the table layout is the inclusion of a number of communal tables (mensa tables) which allow patrons to gather in larger social groups or families. The space is defined and flanked around its perimeter by low walls and dry bars of varying height, offering more variety and seating options.
Throughout the design development process Botton & Gardiner worked closely with the interior design team at The Buchan Group to arrive at a furniture solution that reflected the designers' vision of design excellence and functionality while offering competitive value and uncompromised quality. Under contract to Broad Construction Services, Botton & Gardiner went on to manufacture and install all of the furniture and fixtures for the food court and malls.
Once again we were able to demonstrate our ability to deliver a turn key solution on time and with the highest level of cooperation with the principal and other subcontractors and to the full satisfaction of our client.
